We at Convaid | R82 consider it our obligation to the special needs community to share an open letter from NCART Executive Director Donald E. Clayback in support of H.R. 3730 — the bill intended to stop inappropriate application of Medicare Competitive Bid pricing by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to CRT “manual” wheelchair accessories — such as those manufactured and distributed by Convaid | R82.
Manual wheelchair accessories are critical wheelchair components to ensure improved positioning and mobility, which this legislation would protect.
H.R. 3730 is a bipartisan effort led by Representatives Lee Zeldin (R-NY) and John Larson (D-CT) where they are joined by 41 cosponsors. This fix is critical to protect access for people with disabilities who rely on CRT manual wheelchairs.
Convaid | R82 applauds the 43 lawmakers behind the bill. Still, are asking you as members of our special needs community to reach out to your local Representatives to get them to sign on as a cosponsor to help get this legislation passed.
Our friends at NCART have provided updated the materials and tools at www.protectmymobility.org to facilitate your direct outreach. As with every initiative, direct phone calls to your representatives always help. You can also find those numbers through the NCART link.
As NCART reminds, “polite persistence is key to a successful outcome.”
Open Letter from NCART Executive Director Donald E. Clayback
CRT Stakeholders and Friends,
H.R. 3730 is the new bill to stop CMS’ inappropriate application of Medicare Competitive Bid pricing to CRT “manual” wheelchair accessories (critical wheelchair components). As reported, this new legislation is being led by Representatives Lee Zeldin (R-NY) and John Larson (D-CT) and they were joined in this bipartisan introduction by 41 original cosponsors. This fix is critical to protect access for people with disabilities who rely on CRT manual wheelchairs.
It’s a very busy/chaotic time in Congress. The bipartisan introduction of H.R. 3730 by 43 Representatives is a great start, but it’s important everyone now take the time to reach out to their Representative and get them to sign as a cosponsor. The CRT community will need to work hard to be get this supported and passed.
We’ve updated the materials and tools at www.protectmymobility.org to make the outreach to your Representative as easy as possible. Visit the site and use the H.R. 3730 email and call links to get to your Representative’s office. The site also has the new position paper, the list of Representatives who have signed on so far, and the legislative language.
Remember, polite persistence is key to a successful outcome.
Side Note: We expect a Senate companion bill to be introduced shortly. But for now, our focus is on securing House of Representatives cosponsors.
Thanks for taking the time to contact your Representative and secure them as a cosponsor. Please point other CRT stakeholders to www.protectmymobility.org so they can do the same.
