To many Convaid | R82 users this is the first week that many are returning back to school after a summer of fun and adventure. As happens throughout typical and special needs families, kids do what they do best – grow.
Although the Convaid | R82 lightweight, portable folding pediatric wheelchairs provide for roughly five years of growth, the start of the school year is a good time to check for adjustments. As children grow, footplates may need to be extended to accommodate longer legs even though there may not have been much growth in the trunk or in width.
In the event of overall growth, laterals may need to be adjusted in that they might not provide support exactly where they need to if a child has seen a growth spurt.
Then, there is the post summer general wheelchair check-up that is a good idea. Wheelchairs have been to the beach, lake, camping, visiting friends and family, to water parks and all points in between. Straps, belts, pommels and canopies are designed to weather year-round adventure. However, it is always a good idea to check for good clasping and adjustment for growth.
Since many kids make use of school busses to get to school and back, this is also a good time to make sure that transit anchors are in perfect working order.
