On March 3, 2018 at the Norman P. Murray Center in Mission Viejo, CA, a team of volunteers from Convaid | R82 will join Children’s Cerebral Palsy Movement (CCPM) in the 5K Oso Fit Run for Fun and Community Health Fair that brings together children living with Cerebral Palsy and typical high school track team chaperones – affording a unique opportunity for participants living with Cerebral Palsy to gain this experience. Breaking Bad’s RJ Mitte will be the event’s guest of honor.
The Cerebral Palsy Children’s Walk/Run – an event that runs parallel to the 5K Oso Fit Run – is geared for children living with Cerebral Palsy who will participate alongside their mainstream peers. This event kicks off at 9:15AM with a fitness warm-up. The run will start at 9:30AM followed by a post-event reception to honor the Cerebral Palsy participants and other participants who had designated CCPM as their non-profit of choice. Convaid | R82 personnel and products will be on hand with a dedicated booth.
At 8:30AM the Oso Fit 5K Fun Run will start and at 9:30AM Territory Manager Rebecca Hombs and Marketing Communications Manager Milena Rimassa will participate in the special quarter and half-mile circuits alongside members of the Capistrano Valley High School Boy’s Track Team who will serve as running buddies for the Cerebral Palsy participants. All participants participating in the shorter runs will be presented with a medal at the finish line with public acknowledgment and rewarded for their accomplishment in finishing the course, a first accomplishment for many of them.
“The CCPM run within a run is a perfect opportunity for children living with Cerebral Palsy to experience something many have never dreamed possible, and they can do it in a safe and supportive environment alongside their peers and typical children. We are grateful for the opportunity provided by the City of Mission Viejo to support a vital opportunity for inclusion for children living with Cerebral Palsy” said Debbie Fragner, CCPM Founder.
Mark Nix, Director of Recreation and Community Services for the City of Mission Viejo said, “the City has a long history of supporting programs that provide inclusion opportunities and have even originated some events of our own.”
The shorter courses are accessible for participants who use braces, crutches, walkers or wheelchairs where the high school track team and Convaid | R82 running buddies will be on foot to assist. Event organizers encourage family and other supporters to stay up close to cheer for participants and take photographs and shoot videos.
“Community engagement and social responsibility is a huge part of the Convaid | R82 pathos. When we recognize and opportunity to be of service to a condition-state community we are eager to help. In the case of CCPM, we recognize advancement has been made in different therapies that lead to better outcomes for children living with Cerebral Palsy. Sometimes getting on a horse, being exposed to music and dance, can spark marked improvement in quality of life,” said Ryan B. Williams, President, Etac NA.
