Cerebral Palsy is the most common motor disability in childhood. Population-based studies from around the world report prevalence estimates range from 1.5 to more than 4 per 1,000 live births. In this webinar, cerebral palsy definition and classification are briefly reviewed, followed by an outline of the use of standers and walkers for specific GMFCS levels. The different types of standers and benefits of standing are also explored. Neuroscience research addressing the positives of independent mobility are presented as well as individual characteristics of walkers/gait trainers to assist in this endeavor. Convaid and R82 seating and mobility expert, K. Missy Ball, MT, PT, ATP and certified pediatric NDT, addresses mobility and daily living needs of those living with Cerebral Palsy throughout the webinar series. She is the former Acting Director of the Physical Therapy Department of Children’s Hospital in New Orleans, where she co-directed the hospital’s seating program for 10-years. She has also worked with United Cerebral Palsy Center’s Seating Clinic.
