Torrance, CA (September 28, 2016) –    Cerebral Palsy is the most common motor disability in childhood. Population-based studies from around the world report prevalence estimates range from 1.5 to more than 4 per 1,000 live births. Convaid and R82 products are often prescribed for children living with Cerebral Palsy. Part 2 of a three-part Cerebral Palsy series will be held on October 20, 2016. It will address standing and walking for specific GMFCS levels.

Course 2 | Cerebral Palsy:  Standing and Walking | Thursday, October 20, 2016

In this webinar, cerebral palsy definition and classification will very briefly be reviewed, followed by an outline of the use of standers and walkers for specific GMFCS levels. The different types of standers and benefits of standing will be explored. Neuroscience research addressing the positives of independent mobility will be presented as well as individual characteristics of walkers/gait trainers to assist in this endeavor. Course 3 | Cerebral Palsy:  Use of Home Equipment | Thursday, November 17, 2016

This webinar will briefly review cerebral palsy and classification before addressing equipment needs in the home. Equipment to address positioning for feeding, and fine motor activities such as brushing teeth, performing homework or social play will be explored. This webinar focused on defining cerebral palsy, causes, risks factors, classification and description of the different types, as well as specific seating & mobility issues.  Classification is based on type, bodily involvement and severity.  The Gross Motor Functional Classification Scale was discussed as a reference for Cerebral Palsy severity and equipment options. Specific clinical manifestations found in each type of cerebral palsy were explored and seating and mobility options to address these conditions were presented in the context of Convaid and R82 products.
